April will bring us home to Toronto and soon after settling back in and sleeping off the long drive, it's back to the studio for me! I'm very excited to be recording an album completely dedicated to my piano-driven songs. Working with multi-talented, multi-instrumentalist, Derek Downham, this record is going to be a departure from what we've been doing recently, while getting closer to my roots - back to my original instrument. We'll be recording throughout April and May with the release date TBD. 

Until then, you can find me this spring singing with the Ole Fashion at Opera Bob's and The Cadillac Lounge, or with the Sarah Burton Band at Dakota Tavern. 

May the spring melt your winter blues away!!

It may seem that I've led a quiet fall season after spending a vigorous summer touring the country. In fact, I have been quite busy, getting ready for an even busier 2013! 2012 ended with 2 pieces of great news in particular: I've been lucky enough to join the cast and crew for another great run of John Cameron Mitchell's acclaimed Glam-Rock musical, HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, and I've been awarded a considerable grant from FACTOR to record my next album. I'm very excited and grateful for both of these things!

I'll share more with you on the upcoming album later, but for now, let's get our Glam on!

Since the completion of our 12 month-running Ladies in Waiting residency at Not My Dog, the ladies went into high gear working on their individual projects.

Here's what I have to report:

Valentine's day marked the release of the official music video for the song Gravity, from my 2010 release, Mayflower. Be sure to check out this beautiful video, directed by Alanna Marie Nish, shot and recorded live on location in a beautiful setting just north of Toronto. The video features Cindy Doire on bass, Pat Phillips on drums, Sara Fitzpatrick on fiddle, Jay Swinnerton on guitar, Jenny Allen on washboard and even my publicist, Joelle May, making her performance debut on shakers. Valentine's day also marked the first day of tracking for my new upcoming album, Fire Breathers. This collection of forbidden love songs will feature the talents of Luke Stackhouse on bass, Pat Phillips on drums, Jay Swinnerton on lead guitar and more special guests to come. An album whose themes are taken from the darkest but sweetest parts of the heart, you can expect Fire Breathers to sing you a love-lullaby and then rock you like the one that got away. Recording in the beautiful live room at River 16 studio in my hometown, I'll be posting lots of updates over the next month as we do our best to raise money to finish the album. Faye Blais, who is enjoying a tour in sunny Australia right now with the killer all-girl trio, Jungal, is releasing her 3rd and highly anticipated album, On the Brightside. This is sure to be a sunny addition to your album collection -- having toured and played with Faye Blais on and off for over 2 years now, I know how much work has gone into this from the ground up, and the songs are AMAZING. I can't wait to hear it. I'm also happy to report that Faye will be back in Canada soon for spring and summer touring.

Andrea Ramolo & Cindy Doire have been hard at work in the studio and are currently putting the finishing touches on the debut release from their new collaboration - Scarlett Jane. The new project features the talent of some of Ontario's finest musicians, including Gary Craig (drums), Ryan Webber (bass) and Greg Cockerill (guitar). Produced by Stew Crookes at the Woodshed in Toronto, you can expect powerful vocal lines and harmonies, racy lyrics and a rockin' band. Look out for Scarlett Jane's debut album in May.

Here I am, enjoying the beautiful crisp fall weather and looking forward to 2 weeks of solo shows from Edmonton to Lethbridge and many places in between.

I have to admit - I'm going to miss the lightning bolts, the glam rock, the makeup, and the leopard print. But it's nice to get back to my roots.

Now I'm just finishing packing my bags -- nothing like keeping yourself busy to distract from the freezing cold. A foot of snow dropped last night in Toronto and Sean Pinchin and I are heading to North Bay to start our February Freedom Tour. It's gonna be a blast, you should join us!
